Prosecutors Take Up Justin Bieber Battery Case

The water Justin Bieber is soaking in is only getting hotter.

Despite an ongoing investigation, TMZ has confirmed that the 18-year-old pop phenom's weekend battery case has already been referred to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.

Maybe it's kismet his latest single is called "Boyfriend": if convicted, Bieber would face a maximum six-month sentence being just the prettiest new main squeeze for some denizen of the Los Angeles County Jail, More likely, given the Lindsay Lohan-Paris Hilton precedent, he'd more likely be reduced to nothing but a day-long fling and a story about "the one that got away."

Someone somewhere has no interest in wasting time. It was just May 27 that Bieber allegedly scuffled with a photographer at Calabasas, Calif.'s Calabasas Shopping Center. A Malibu-Lost Hills Sheriff's Department press release states the photographer claims Bieber and firlfriend Selena Gomez left the scene after the altercation, before authorities could arrive.

Things reportedly got physical when Bieber spotted the paparazzo snapping pictures of the pair enjoying a Sunday out without getting Bieber's OK.

"The victim complained of pain and requested medical attention," a Sheriff's Department representative told Us Weekly. "Personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and later released. The victim requested a criminal report be taken regarding the incident and an allegation of misdemeanor battery report was taken at the scene."
