Producer Sues Gilmore Girls Revival

One of the original producers of Gilmore Girls is suing Warner Bros. Television over the current production of the series' revival, which is slated for release on Netflix later in the year. Gavin Polone argues that the deal he made with the studio years ago entitles him to a payout for the new episodes being filmed for the revival.

Polone argues that he was promised $32,500 for each episode of the original series. Given that the revival will consist of four 90-minute episodes, in contrast to the 60-minute episodes of the original series, Polone thinks that he deserves 1.5 times the amount specified in his contract, or a total of $195,000 for the entire revival.

On its side of the issue, Warner argues that Polone is not entitled to anything because the revival is not the same product as the original series, but rather a derivative work based on the original series. The studio also contends that the revival is not a "TV series" because it's going to air on Netflix, and not on a traditional TV network.

Semantics aside, the important thing is that Polone is not seeking to stop the revival's production, which means there's no danger that the legal wrangling could deprive fans of the much-anticipated the series - or whatever it is.
