Preview Single Released From Upcoming Amy Winehouse Collection

Preview Single Released From Upcoming Amy Winehouse Collection Please, preview this first track from the first upcoming posthumous Amy Winehouse collection. Preview knowing that this isn't merely a timely cash-grab, either.

The British singer, who'd only in the last years of her life found a devout stateside following before her death of alcohol poisoning in July at the age of 27, seemingly seemed most warm, comfortable and cozy when she wrapped herself in the love-lorn heartache and excesses of self-medicating that underscored the 1950s and '60s girl-group, rhythm & blues and soul greats' prime popularity.

Note even the loving name-drops of Ray Charles and Donnie Hathaway in her most famous U.S. hit, "Rehab."

So it's somewhat fitting that the first single off the upcoming Amy Winehouse Lioness: Hidden Treasures would be a cover of Ruby & The Romantics' 1963 tune "Our Day Will Come." And once more, she does her favorite era justice. The album, to be released by Island Records, debuts Dec. 5 and one pound from each copy will be donated toward The Amy Winehouse Foundation. Mitch Winehouse, Amy's father, also plans to release a memoir of his daughter's troubled life, with that project's proceeds also benefitting The Foundation.

Look, in all seriousness, being cynical comes easy. God knows, I ooze more snark before breakfast than some people do all day. And I know that the world will never completely erradicate addiction. But some addicts just won't see the light until they see just how deeply someone can care about them, and realize that's something worth living to enjoy. Some end up like Ray Charles or Johnny Cash, find that one person, and turn their lives around to see their greatest days were always ahead. Others, like Winehouse, apparently never see it.

But if there's somebody or some group that's interested in doing what can be done so that there will be even one less Amy Winehouse tragedy (and, who knows, maybe save a Winehouse-like talent), then in my opinion, that's something worth supporting.

Especially by purchasing what will no doubt be some great music.
