'Pretty Little Liars' Set for Season 7 Debut
by EG
The home network of Pretty Little Liars has a new name, and now the series has a premiere date for its new - and possibly final - season. No one seems to be sure whether PLL will return for an eighth season, but we know at least that the series will be back next month for a season that promises the climax of the series' overall story arc.
Season 7 of PLL will debut on June 21 on Freeform, the new name of the ABC Family network. The new season will kick off with a time jump that pushes the story five years ahead of the events of season 6. Creator Marlene King has said that the current storyline, which she calls the "Uber A" story, will be wrapped up over the course of season 7's 20 episodes, which presumably would provide a satisfying stopping point for the series.
But will it all end with this season? King insists that even if the Uber A story concludes this year, she still has plenty of ideas for future seasons. Earlier this year, though, star Lucy Hale made headlines when she said with certainty that the coming season would be the series' last.
In the end, the decision will probably be up to Freeform. The network gave the series a two-season renewal back at the end of season 5, but as of right now, the network has no official plans for another renewal. King says that it's up to fans whether or not they want an eighth season, and they'll be able to make the decision by watching, thereby increasing ratings and making another season irresistible to Freeform.
