'Pretty Little Liars' Ratings Fall Again
by EG
Pretty Little Liars showrunner I. Marlene King has said that it's up to fans whether or not PLL comes back for an eighth season. Presumably that means that fans will vote with their viewership, and the Freeform network will decide based on ratings whether or not the current seventh season is the series' last. So far this season, the prospects for season eight are not looking good.
The season premiere two weeks ago scored a .7 rating in the all-important 18-49 age demographic, a decline of more than a third from the rating drawn by the sixth-season premiere. That episode a year ago was the series' lowest at the time, so the seventh-season premiere lowers the ratings bar by a significant margin over years past.
Worse yet, the ratings drop continued into the season's second week. Episode number two earned a .6 rating in the 18-49 group, and its total viewership was by 200,000.
On the bright side, this season's premiere enjoyed better ratings than last season's finale, and even with the drop between weeks one and two, this season is so far on a par, ratings-wise, with last season.
