'Pretty Little Liars' Gets Big Renewal Before Season 5 Premiere!
by Andy NeuenschwanderWe heard about this one through a text from A: "Pretty Little Liars" has been renewed for two more seasons!
The hit ABC Family drama will be back for season six and season seven, keeping the show on the air until well into 2016. While the episode counts are still a mystery, these appear to be full season orders (meaning between 22 and 25 episodes), set to premiere in summer of 2015 and 2016.
Interestingly, this news comes before the fifth season has even premiered. While it's not unusual these days for networks to give their big shows renewals early in the season as opposed to after the finale, it is a bit unusual for a show to get a renewal before the premiere, and even more so to give a two-season renewal.
"'Pretty Little Liars' has taken its place in the zeitgeist and reigns supreme in pop culture," ABC Family president Tom Ascheim said in a statement. "I am glad to bring another two seasons to our audience, because 'A' has a lot in store for our Liars."
The fifth season of the show, which premieres June 10 (tonight), will continue the suspense after the fourth season revealed the identity of Red Coat.
The renewal also makes "Pretty Little Liars" the longest-running show on ABC Family to date, and while season seven might end up being the last, producers aren't setting it in stone just yet. So good news all around for you fans out there!
