Presidential Candidate Roseanne Barr Picks Fight With Mitt Romney's Wife
by Sean ComerGreen Party presidential candidate Roseanne Barr - I will never get completely accustomed to typing that - has chosen her White House campaign's first target.
Unfortunately, it's seemingly not exactly a "candidate," as E! Online reports.
Instead, she's "calling bulls**t" on Republican leader Mitt Romney's wife Ann's bragadocio touting her motherly workload.
Democratic strategist Hillary Rosen fired a shot across the bow at the former Massachussetts First Lady after Romney preached of motherhood being a "full-time job." Rosen countered that Mrs. Romney "never worked a day in her life" but also subsequently apologized.
Amid a recent column written for The Daily Beast, the "Roseanne" namesake and mind behind the brief reality spectacle "Roseanne's Nuts" suggests maybe Rosen shouldn't have backed down so quickly.
"Mrs. Mitt Romney claims to have worked her toned ass off, raising five Romney males all on her own, as privileged wives often do - but, no, Anne, I call bulls**t on your Big Mama story, girlfriend," Barr wrote.
"I say let's find that 'cleaning lady' (if she is documented) and ask HER how many hours she worked per week over the years," her piece concluded.
What seemingly got Barr's goat worst was what framing device she feared the American mass media might unearth from decades-old layers of mothballs. Barr seemingly wants a united voter base, even if not necessarily one united behind her.
This flap looks unsettlingly familiar, Barr admitted.
"The media, which are completely clueless about every single issue that affects American women, must have had a shiver run down their nonexistent spines when they realized they could dig out the old 'stay-at-home mom versus working mom" script that worked so well to divide and conquer mothers and women along class lines to help defeat the Equal Rights Amendment back in my 20s," Barr said.
