'Predator' Getting a Reboot from 'Iron Man 3' Writer/Director

Get your mud camoflage ready. The Predator is coming back!

The classic alien monsters that originally appeared in the 1980's opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger are getting a reboot into an entirely new movie. According to reports, "Iron Man 3" writer/director Shane Black will do the honors.

Black, who is revered for his work on "Lethal Weapon" and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang," scored a hit with "Iron Man 3," winning fans and critics over again after a lackluster second entry in the Iron Man series. 20th Century Fox will be the studio in charge.

The "Predator" franchise has been an inconsistent one, with various reboots and random entries over the past 30 years. The original premiered in 1987, followed closely by "Predator 2," which came out in 1990. However, it was a full 20 years before another solo Predator movie, when "Predators" came out in 2010. In the interim, there was "Alien vs. Predator" and a sequel that came out in 2004 and 2007.

Interestingly, Black actually appeared in a minor role in the original "Predator" movie. Hot off of his success with "Lethal Weapon," he had been approached twice by the studio to do some rewrites to the script. He turned those down both times, but accepted an acting role in the film.

Scheduling might become a factor with this reboot, as Black is currently trying to develop a Doc Savage movie as well as a 1970's crime flick titled "The Nice Guys."
