Possible 'Ghostbusters' Reboot Will Feature Female Main Characters
by Shannon KeirnanHow great is this news? Paul Feig, who directed the hilarious and woman-centered comedy "Bridesmaids," is in talks to produce a "Ghostbusters" reboot... starring ladies.
With the blatant lack of good roles for women in Hollywood these days, this has the potential to be a great springboard for future opportunities, as well as a great laugh.
It was previously reported that Feig was in talks for "Ghostbusters 3," but the reboot he is actually up for is unlikely to be a sequel of any kind, and will be written from scratch. It would place women in the ghostbusting roles.
Feig is also in talks with Sony to direct. No formal negotiations have taken place as of yet. Currently, he's re-teaming with "Bridemaids" and "The Heat" actress Melissa McCarthy for "Spy," which releases Memorial Day of 2015. With several other scripts currently in development, a "Ghostbusters" reboot would probably come in a ways down the road.
Can it please continue the Feig trend and star Melissa McCarthy? Please pretty please?
"Ghostbusters 3," which has been in the theoretical stage for about 150 years now (give or take), was finally slated to be directed by Ivan Reitman, who directed the original two flicks. However Reitman dropped out of the project in March, following the death of his good friend Harold Ramis.
"Men in Black 3" writer Etan Cohen was brought in to rewrite the script, and other directors were considered for the project. However, nothing has been finalized regarding who will helm the film.
It is unclear at this time if the "Ghostbusters" reboot would take the place of the third film, or come in addition to it. One thing is certain - a reboot with well-chosen female leads and directed by the hilarious Feig is a pretty great concept.
Which ladies would you like to see kicking some phantom butts?
