'PJ20': Watch the Trailer for the New Pearl Jam Documentary

'PJ20': Watch the Trailer for the New Pearl Jam Documentary I'll never forget that moment. I was 15, and making my way into the Riverport Ampitheater in St. Louis for Lollapalooza 2. It was my first rock festival, and as we walked to our seats towards the beginning of the Pearl Jam set, we were suddenly caught up in a crushing wave of people that had surged forward.

It was like being accidentally caught in the middle of the running of the bulls, and everything I had in my hands ended up on the ground trampled.

Eddie Vedder had climbed the rafters of the theater, and was preparing to leap from some fairly ridiculous heights into the frothy crowd below. It may sound like a giant cliche now, but he pulled it off and it was mind-boggling.

At that moment in time, that sh%^ was as rock and roll as it gets.

Which is why, though I haven't been as over-the-top pumped up about the band over the past 10 years or so, I was pretty excited to see theĀ  trailer for the Cameron Crowe-directed documentary "PJ20."

Released on the band's 20th anniversary, the documentary takes a look at Pearl Jam and their history, including some rare and unreleased footage, interviews with the band and behind-the-scenes tales from "Ten" and beyond. Pearl Jam will also release a soundtrack and book of the same name when the film is released in September.

From "Almost Famous" and "Elizabethtown" to his new doc "The Union," Cameron Crowe has proven incredibly adept at telling stories centered on the joy and heartache of music. The truth is, Pearl Jam is one of the few true great remaining American rock and roll bands, so I can't think of anyone better to do the job.

"PJ20" hits theaters around the country this weekend.
