Phillip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead (UPDATE)

In unexpected and terrible news, Yidio is sad to announce that Academy Award-winning actor Phillip Seymour Hoffman has passed away.

Hoffman, 46, was found dead in the bathroom of his fourth-floor Manhattan apartment on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. A 911 emergency call from a friend tipped off police. The friend was apparently concerned that they were unable to reach Hoffman.

Police officials on the scene say it's "pretty apparent that it was an overdose. The syringe was in his arm," with an envelope of what appears to be heroin nearby.

The investigators who alerted the media have requested anonymity, as they were unsure if Hoffman's family had yet been informed. The actor has three children (Cooper, 10; Tallulah, 7; Willa, 5) with his wife, costume designer Mimi O'Donnell.

In May, Hoffman completed a 10-month stint in a drug rehabilitation program for a variety of substance abuse issues, including snorting heroin. He had previously remained clean for 23 years before "falling off the wagon."

Hoffman was nominated for four Oscars, and took home best actor for Capote in 2006. Most recently he appeared as Plutarch Heavensbee in "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

He will appear in "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I" when it is released in Novemeber; however Part II is currently filming.

The cinematic world lost an excellent member today, and our sincerest condolences go out to friends and family of the great Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
