Pete Davidson's attempt at political commentary on this week's Saturday Night Live managed to spark controversy, but not because of its political content. One of Davidson's politically apathetic jokes struck a nerve with some conservative commentators. Read on for details.

“Saturday Night Live” comedian Pete Davidson is drawing fire for poking fun at an eye patch worn by a Republican war veteran running for congress.
“This guy’s kinda cool — Dan Crenshaw,” Davidson began during the show’s “Weekend Update” segment.
Apparently seeing where the bit was headed, show co-writer and segment host Michael Che groaned “Oh c’mon man” as Davidson continued.
“You may be surprised to learn he’s a congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie,” Davidson said during the skit where he gave “first impressions” of electoral candidates.
“I’m sorry — I know he lost his eye in war or whatever,” he chuckled.
Conservatives pounced on the funnyman Sunday morning.
“Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended. That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes,” tweeted Crenshaw, a retired Navy SEAL who lost an eye in Afghanistan.
He later called the joke “absolutely disgusting.”
National Republican Campaign Committee spokesman Jack Pandol suggested Davidson was bitter over his recent engagement with pop star Ariana Grande fell through and demanded an apology Sunday.
“Getting dumped by your pop star girlfriend is no excuse for lashing out at a decorated war hero who lost his eye serving our country,” he said in a statement. “Pete Davidson and NBC should immediately apologize to Dan, and to the millions of veterans and military families who tune in every weekend – because they’re not laughing.”
