Don Draper, Comedian? New Comedy Project for 'Mad Men' Star Jon Hamm

Don Draper, Comedian? New Comedy Project for 'Mad Men' Star Jon Hamm While he's not working on "Mad Men" or attending awards shows as its figurehead, Jon Hamm is slowly developing quite the career as a comic actor. He's appeared several times on "30 Rock," "Conan," "Saturday Night Live," and "The Simpsons," and this summer can be seen in the Kristen Wiig comedy "Bridesmaids," which received glowing reviews after its premiere at South by Southwest.

It was only a matter of time before someone took that talent and funneled it towards a project centered around him, and in an interview with 24 Frames, "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig says he wants to be that man.

"[Jon Hamm] is such a comedy nerd. He will quote lines from 'Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy.' You're quoting something even I can't quote! He's always wanted to do comedy. One of the next things I'm developing [is] a project for him to star in. I think he's so funny. He's like Cary Grant to me."

The Cary Grant comparison is apt. Though Grant was a comedian first, and wasn't afraid to go all-out silly (as Hamm has done on "30 Rock"), he could turn serious on a dime (the ending of "The Awful Truth" is a rather magical moment). Hamm has more than proven himself dramatically, and with "Mad Men" on an indefinite hiatus, now would be the time to dive head-first into comedy.

Feig made his bones as the creator and showrunner of "Freaks and Geeks," but since then he's taken the slow-and-steady approach. He's directed many episodes of "The Office," "Arrested Development," "Nurse Jackie," and even an an episode of "Mad Men." If "Bridesmaids" turns out to be a hit, his next comedy project will be on the house. Calling Mr. Draper?
