'Party Down' Movie Confirmed, Will Jane Lynch Join?
by Andy NeuenschwanderFor two glorious seasons, "Party Down" aired on Starz and provided some truly entertaining comedy with a talented cast, including Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan and Jane Lynch. Then it was cancelled.
But those who miss the show will soon get a special treat: "Breaking In" star Megan Mullally (who also starred on the show) confirmed at Fox's TCA conference yesterday that there will be a "Party Down" movie!
Yes, it looks like "Arrested Development" has started a new trend for comedies that die before their time in creating a movie a few years after cancellation. Maybe this means that if "Community" gets cancelled at the end of this season, they can come back with one too (hey, it's not "six seasons and a movie," but it's something).
Mullally talked up the script at the press conference, and also noted that the entire cast will be returning... except, maybe, for Jane Lynch. Lynch starred in the pilot and the first half of season one, but ended up having to leave the show for a bigger opportunity on network TV: her role as Sue Sylvester in "Glee." That role still might end up keeping Lynch from being featured heavily in the movie, as "Glee" has a very full shooting schedule.
Regardless of whether Lynch joins in or not, this will be a nice treat to fans and most likely a great all-around comedy for anyone to go see. But I'm sure the movie will do much better at the box office with Lynch attached.
The show, which was created in part by Paul Rudd, followed a group of actors, writers and other showbiz hopefuls as they worked a "side job" in a catering company.
