'Parks & Recreation' Soon to Be a Book?

'Parks & Recreation' Soon to Be a Book? Usually books get adapted into TV shows, and not the other way around. But when it comes to "Parks and Recreation," apparently the rules go out the window.

The NBC comedy is going to release a book soon about the town of Pawnee, which is of course completely fictional. The book will be written from the perspective of starring character Leslie Knope, played (to perfection) by "Saturday Night Live" alum Amy Poehler.

Executive producer Mike Schur describes the book best: "The ever-expanding town of Pawnee has become its own character in our show, and we’re thrilled that we got to accelerate that expansion in one giant, goofy 240-page comedy book," said Schur.

It seems that the book won't be too inside-jokey, though, and will instead be a satirical piece on Midwestern towns in general. It’s a complete portrait of Everytown, USA," added Schur, "which every reader – whether a fan of the show or a newbie – can enjoy."

The book will be written by the show's writers (and possibly by the actors as well), and will feature commentary by characters from the show.

The idea seems to follow in the footsteps of the likes of "The Daily Show," which has released two satirical books (America: The Book and Earth) put together by the show's writers.

The "Parks and Recreation" book, which will be titled Pawnee: The Greatest Town in America, will release on October 4th. And you can look forward to new episodes from the renewed "Parks & Rec" in the fall as well.
