'Parks & Recreation' Producer and Inventor of 'Humblebrag' Found Dead of Apparent Overdose

The comedy community has lost another to addiction.

Harris Wittels, co-executive producer of "Parks & Recreation" on NBC, was found dead last night in his Los Angeles home. The cause of death has not been confirmed, but sources believe it was a drug overdose.

Wittels also wrote for shows like "Eastbound & Down" and "The Sarah Silverman Program" before his time on "Parks & Rec." Those who watch "Parks & Rec" will also recognize Wittels as Harris, one of the two Animal Control guys in Pawnee.

Wittels is also well known as the comedian who coined the term "humblebrag," which describes comments that appear to be self-deprecating but are actually self-aggrandizing.

"Today, I lost a friend," said "Parks & Rec" star Amy Poehler last night, honoring Wittels during a speech she gave at the Unity Awards for her charity work. "I lost a dear, young friend in my life who was struggling with addiction."

"I’m sharing it with you because life and death live so close together, and we walk that fine line everyday," she continued. "When things happen in our lives, we turn to the people that we love… and we lean on people, in a hope that we will ease our pain."
