Our New Wonder Woman Signs a 3-Picture Deal
by Shannon KeirnanAlthough the Internet's reaction to the casting of Israeli-born actress and model Gal Gadot in the role of Wonder Woman has been lukewarm at best, Warner Bros. Studio isn't phased.
Gadot, who will appear alongside (also-controversially cast) Ben Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman in the sequel to "Man of Steel," recently announced on Israeli talk show "Good Evening with Gai Pines" that her deal with the studio involves 3 total films.
Not bad for a woman who is previously known best for winning the 2004 Miss Universe pageant, and appearing in the latest 3 "Fast and Furious" films. Will her new role rocket the lovely woman into a household name?
There's no official word yet on what the other two films Gadot will appear in will be. "Man of Steel 2" will secure her the character of Wonder Woman on its release two years from now, but speculation is suggesting Warner Bros. will pursue a "Justice League" film.
The studio has also made multiple attempts to create a Wonder Woman stand-alone film, so there's a very good possibility Gadot will find herself the star of a film based on the Amazonian princess.
Gadot won the coveted role over fan-favorites Elodie Yung ("G. I. Joe: Retaliation) and Olga Kurylenko ("Oblivion."), no doubt a dream character for a woman who has stated, "There aren't enough food roles for strong women. I wish we had more female writers. Most of the female characters you see in films today are the 'poor heartbroken girl.'"
Can Gadot fill enough seats to keep Warner Bros. happy? Time will tell.
