Oscar Nominee Quvenzhane Wallis Cast in 'Annie' Remake

While you’re waiting to see if Quvenzhane Wallis  wins the Oscar for “Beasts of the Southern Wild,” take heart in knowing you’ll be seeing the adorable little girl in plenty of other (potentially award-winning?) film options.

Sony Picture Entertainment director Will Gluck, Marcy Media, and Overbrook Entertainment have recently confirmed that Wallis will be appearing in the upcoming “Annie” remake, as the singing, dancing orphan herself.

Columbia president of production Hannah Minghella gushed about Wallis’ "amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer.

“We can’t wait for audiences to further discover her,” Minghella added.

The film is set to release winter of 2014. It will be directed by Gluck, who also directed “Easy A.”

James Lassiter, Jay-Z, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Will Smith will be producing—originally, the role of Annie was meant to go to the Smiths’ daughter Willow, but she “outgrew” the character. Wallis will only be ten when shooting begins.

The script was written by Emma Thompson (“Nanny McPhee”) and has been edited by Aline Brosh McKenna and Gluck.

Recently, “Glee” actress Jane Lynch was cast as Miss Hannigan in the Broadway version of the musical.

“I think there’s a chance here for me to show a subtler side of her, and a subtler side of myself to audiences — at least for those who think all I do is play silly dames,” she said.

Any chance that the funny lady will make the cross over into the film? One can certainly hope.

The talented young Wallis will also be appearing in Steve McQueen's "Twelve Years a Slave” alongside Brad Pitt and Michael Fassbender.
