'Orange Is the New Black' Renewed for 3rd Season
by Andy NeuenschwanderDon't even think about canceling that Netflix subscription!
The Netflix original series "Orange is the New Black" has been renewed for a third season, as confirmed by THR. The third season will contain a full run of 13 episodes.
This news comes at an interesting time, almost exactly one full month before season two of the show premieres on Netflix. Normally, networks wait until at least after the premiere episode of a show's season to announce the next. But then again, Netflix isn't your average network.
The renewal shows the streaming/rental company's increasing confidence in its own original content. That confidence is well placed, too: "House of Cards" collected nominations and wins at both the Emmy and Golden Globe awards and continues to be one of the most talked-about dramas on the air.
"OITNB" gets its fair share of buzz as well, but a recent change might help it become more of an awards contender as well. Netflix recently changed the category of the show from "drama" to "comedy," opening the door for the show and its actors to be nominated in comedy categories at award shows.
Since season two hasn't even premiered yet, there aren't many details about season three. However, Laura Prepon (who plays Alex Vause on the show) Instagrammed a pic showing some potential episode titles for the third season. We hope they actually use them, especially "Hanging Ten in Blowjob City." Catchy.
