'Once Upon a Time' Season 4, Episode 2: 'White Out' Recap

Elsa is determined to find out what happened to Anna. She puts up an ice wall around Storybrooke.

Back in the Enchanted Forest, Anna knocks on a door... it is David, before he was Prince. He is friends with Kristoff. Anna asks to sleep in his barn, pretending to be someone named Joan, but he sees right through her. He warns her to hide as someone named Bo Peep rides up.

In Storybrooke, Henry makes a basket for his mom to help her get over her breakup. A crow arrives with a message from Regina - she doesn't want to see Henry. He's crushed. Emma reads it and notes it says she doesn't want to see her "right now."

There is a sudden blackout. Emma and Charming go to investigate and find the ice wall.

Granny, Happy, and Grumpy go to Snow White and tell her she's the mayor now - Regina doesn't want the job and they helped her get the kingdom back. They demand she fix the power outage.

Hook goes to check the wall with them, calling it his "second date" with Emma. Looking around, Emma finds Elsa.

Bo Peep demands her payment from David and his mother, which they can't pay. She taps her stick and "brands" them so they can't leave. She gives them 24 hours to pay, or she takes the farm and enslaves them.

Anna encourages him to fight the warlord Bo Peep, and offers to teach him how to use a sword.

Hook and Charming find Emma and Elsa and panic Elsa, causing snow and ice to fly everywhere and knock them all down. Emma gets trapped behind ice with Elsa, and Charming and Hook try to break through to her.

Sword lessons with Anna aren't going well for David, and he gives up. She accuses him of cowardice. David tells her how once he overheard his parents fighting about his father's drinking, and his father said he would beat it. He promised to stop drinking. He left for his usual two week trip to get supplies, saying he would be sober when he returned. David waited, excitedly. On the 14th day, they got the news - for 13 days he was sober, and then he spent a night at a tavern. They found his body in the bottom of a ravine.

Emma radios to Charming and Elsa tells them she'll freeze the town unless she gets her sister. Emma, freezing, tries to get her to melt the ice, but she realizes that what Elsa meant was that she can't control her powers, and would freeze the town on accident. Emma can't use her powers to get out, she is too cold. She falls asleep, despite Elsa trying to keep her awake.

As Snow attempts to get the power back on, hounded by the dwarves and Granny, she snaps and yells at them all, blaming them for making Regina evil and telling them to buy a flashlight as they've lived most of their lives without electricity and can do it again.

Charming and Hook go to Gold, who says if he tries to melt the ice he'd probably melt Emma too. They ask about Anna. Belle shows them a picture of the necklace from inventory, and Charming suddenly know that Anna is "Joan." Flashback to David telling Anna to leave, but finding Bo Peep in her place. She has taken Anna and branded her as well.

Charming goes to find Bo Peep, now a butcher. She tries to knife him, stopped by Hook. They take her hook so they can track down the branded Anna. Elsa radios Hook and tells them that Anna has passed out and is freezing to death.

David goes to see Bo Peep, and instead of giving her the money, fights her guards. He knocks them out, and fights Peep, managing to win and take Anna's necklace off her. He ties her up and demands Joan, using the crook to find her where she is imprisoned in a barn.

Charming radios Elsa and tells her they have a way to find Anna. Elsa manages to break a way through the wall and they escape, saving Emma.

Snow worries about feeding her son, and has an idea - she finds the fuel supply, and manages to get the generator going.

Ruth, David's mother, gives Anna food to send her on her way and thanks her for "changing" David. Anna asks about magic, and Ruth sends her to a powerful wizard whose name she won't say. David gives Anna his beloved horse, and she goes off in search of Rumplestiltskin.

Elsa looks at the crook, trying to see Anna. She can't find her, but hears a heartbeat - she is alive. She tries to take down the ice barrier, but somehow it still stays up. Something is keeping it there. Elsa is confused, since she is the only one with that power.

Henry goes to Regina's and demands to be let in, and Regina caves and opens the door.

A woman in an ice cream store, keeps her treats frozen with magic. Guess Elsa isn't the only one after all.
