Old School Zombies: Ash vs. Evil Dead
by EG
The Walking Dead may be the current king of the zombie TV series, but in some ways it pales in comparison to its predecessors. After all, when Rick Grimes lost his hand in the Walking Dead comic series, he didn't even consider replacing it with a chainsaw, and the TV series' producers were afraid to let him lose it at all. So when Ash Williams finally makes it to TV, he might set a whole new standard for wannabe zombie killers.
The new Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead features Bruce Campbell in the role he created in the Evil Dead film franchise. Ash, the deadly but not-very-bright zombie hunter, is back and ready to fend off an impending zombie apocalypse 30 years after the events of the film trilogy.
As an added bonus, the series will also feature Lucy Lawless, herself a proven potent monster killer in her work on Xena: Warrior Princess. Lawless will play a woman who, despite being on the right side of the humans-vs-demonzombie conflict, still provides some problems for the brash Ash.
The series was created by Campbell and Sam Raimi, the creator of the original Evil Dead films. Robert Tapert, who produced the original film, is on hand to produce the series, and Raimi's brother Ivan served as a writer for the series' initial episodes. Ash vs. Evil Dead premieres on Starz on October 31, 2015.
