Official: Katy Perry Passes Up Massive 'American Idol' Offer
by Sean ComerMoney isn't much of an object to FOX executives and "American Idol" producers, but it's proven no deal-maker or breaker to Katy Perry. The doe-eyed and buxom brunette pop star reportedly passed up an "Idol" offer that would've upstaged another blockbuster twelfth-season addition, "Access Hollywood" reported Monday via TMZ.
The eight-time Grammy nominee ranked highly among sought-after names to fill up to three "Idol"-judging vacancies following the departures of Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler and 11-season judge Randy Jackson stepping back to a contestant-mentorship role.
Perry reportedly passed up a $20-million, one-year offer that would've leapfrogged her pay past Mariah Carey's $18-million deal to judge this fall's hopefuls and put her in the neighborhood of Britney Spears' reported deal to fill one of two "The X Factor" vacancies.
Curiously, $20 million was also the rumored ballpark salary Lopez wanted to return for a third season at the table. Since Lopez chose instead to depart in favor of her tour alongside Enrique Iglesias and mothering her twins by ex-husband Marc Anthony, either the rumor was bogus or FOX felt Lopez wasn't worth the $20 million expected of them.
Perry reportedly stood by previous assessments that an "Idol" gig wouldn't presently be "the right career choice for her." Meanwhile, AccessHollywood.com and The Hollywood Reporter claim, Australian country singer and Down Under "The Voice" judge Keith Urban is in line to join Carey and rumored rapper judge Nicki Minaj for a comparatively Spartan $3-4 million.
Meanwhile, Nick Jonas also confirmed last week that he's in active negotiations to join the coming season. lending more support to the theory that Jackson will step aside and "Idol" will expand to a four-judge panel for the first time since the quartet of Simon Cowell, Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi and Jackson.
