'The Office' Spin-Off May Never Be, But You Can Still Watch It!
by Shannon KeirnanNBC might have decided the inner workings of Dwight Schrute would be too much for audiences and canned its “Office” spin-off, “The Farm,” but that doesn’t mean we won’t get a glimpse of what may have been.
Creator Greg Daniels has hinted that the now-scrapped pilot will be incorporated into the last season of “The Office.”
“We’re not going to air exactly what it was, because it has certain aspects that were appropriate for a pilot of a new show. We’re going to shoot a little additional material to make it fit into the season more.”
The episode will air right before the series finale hits television.
“The Farm” was originally intended to follow Dwight and his crazy relatives during their beet-farming, bed-and-breakfasting endeavors, but the show didn’t make the cut.
Star Rainn Wilson tweeted, “Farm Update: NBC has passed on moving forward with The Farm TV show. Had a blast making the pilot – onwards & upwards!”
Don’t feel too bad for strange old Dwight, however. The cancellation of any spin-off means that “The Office” will be settling the Dwight Schrute plotline during its finale… and more than likely it will now involve a happy conclusion for the button-up loving worker and his tiny, uptight love interest, Angela.
Daniels says that the pilot was “a very good episode," and promises audiences will enjoy getting a glimpse.
After nine seasons running, “The Office” will wrap next year—and possibly give us our first look at those who have been chuckling from behind the documentary cameras this whole time.
