'The Office' Season 7 Episode 13 Ultimatum - Recap

The Office - S07E13 Ultimatum TV Recap Coming back from several weeks without "The Office," we see Michael Scott (Carell) in agony over the ultimatum Holly had opted to give to her long-time boyfriend A.J.: propose to her by the new year, or they would be through.

Not knowing what to expect, he has Erin help him create videos to talk himself down from either circumstance. Finding out that, to his elation, Holly is not engaged, he rejoices: however, he is again devastated when he finds out that, despite the ultimatum, she is still dating AJ.

Meanwhile, Pam (Fischer) is attempting to have a more practical role in the office as office administrator by taking a page from another admin she knows and creating a "New Year's Resolution" board to get the whole office involved.

This, however, backfires incredibly, as the clashing personalities of the office see the coworkers bickering with each other, and Michael uses it as an opportunity to take out his frustration at his uncertain situation with Holly.

Another offshoot of the resolution storyline is Dwight and Andy going with Darryl to the bookstore, where Darryl learns that he can buy an e-reader to make his books more portable and affordable, which he excitedly buys in spite of the device's threat to the paper industry he works for; later, the trio heads to a roller rink to let off some steam.

Back at The Office, Michael apologizes to Holly and the rest of the office for his behavior, realizing that he needs to let people have their own lives. Interestingly enough, though, the whole experience makes Holly rethink her relationship with AJ, with the implication that it is less stable than she would like to think. What this means for Michael we will simply have to find out as the rest of Carell's final season on The Office plays out.
