Nudity, Sex and 'Orange is the New Black'
by EGIn case you're worried that the new season of "Orange is the New Black" won't have enough sex and nudity in it, creator Jenji Kohan has some reassurance for you. Kohan told the Hollywood Radio and Television Society last week that she's all for keeping the series as raunchy as possible.
"I love graphic sex, the more sex the better," she told the audience at the Society's lunch.
She also admitted that it's not always easy to get the show's actors to take off their clothes—except for the extras, who get an extra $10 per day if they're willing to strip.
"You hope everyone will just be cool about it, and then they're not," she said. "There's a lot of convincing and making people feel comfortable."
Netflix is sometimes reluctant to let Kohan go all the way, too; she says that some male frontal nudity in the upcoming season will be of the unaroused variety, per Netflix's request.
The show's grittiness seems to have a way of making people feel uncomfortable, and that includes the author of the memoir on which it's based, Piper Kerman.
"Piper herself wasn't very comfortable with this very fictionalized account of her own life, so it became its own animal," Kohan said. "She's the godmother of it, and she's the source of it, but it's become its own show."
