Will 'Notorious' Be the First Cancellation of the Fall?
by EG
We're just a few weeks into the new fall TV season, but that's traditionally the time when networks start to prune away the new shows that aren't working. So far, no new series have been cancelled, but the status of ABC's Notorious looks precarious after a move by the network this week.
At a time when the most successful new series are getting orders for more episodes from their happy networks, Notorious got the news that ABC wants fewer episodes of the series than originally planned. The network's original order had been for 13 episodes, but ABC announced this week that it wants just 10 episodes instead.
That doesn't equal cancellation - the network says it plans to air all 10 episodes - but it virtually guarantees that Notorious won't be back for a second season. The legal drama starring Piper Perabo and Daniel Sunjata hasn't been performing well for ABC on Thursday nights, and there's some evidence that it's hurting How To Get Away With Murder, the series that follows it in the schedule.
The decreased episode count should take Notorious through late November or early December, and after that, the series will most likely disappear from the network's line-up forever.
