NFL Sunday Night Ratings Keep Going Up

Donald Trump continues to fan the flames of controversy over player protests in the NFL, but aside from a lot of indignant rhetoric, it doesn't seem that the uproar is hurting the NFL very much. Not only have TV ratings for games not declined substantially since the controversy began, in many cases ratings have actually improved compared to last season. That was the case this Sunday, when the Sunday Night Football game between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons turned in ratings that were much higher than those for last week's Sunday-night game. The ratings were also up significantly from the same week last season.

The good news for Sunday Night Football was twofold in week seven.

"I really don't like leaving much up to fate -- certainly with regard to my football career. If, like me, you're serious about your peak performance, you need to work hard at the things that are within your control: your work ethic, how you treat your body, and your attitude. Especially your attitude. Things happen sometimes that I don't welcome or want, but I make the choice to remain positive. That is something within my control. I don't like to focus on negatives or to make excuses. I am never a victim. I gain nothing if I get angry or frustrated. You can make life a lot harder for yourself by focusing on negative things in your path or making excuses for why things didn't go your way. Or, you can refuse to take things personally, let them go, learn from them, and become the best version of yourself. It's a choice. It's actually your choice. If I throw an interception or have a bad day or make a bad business decision, by staying in that place I will just make things worse. Wisdom, someone said, is about knowing the difference between the things you can control and the things you can't." #TB12Method #Mindset

Not only did the NBC franchise score another year-over-year gain from 2016, the showdown between the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons actually grew week-over-week — something that's proven particularly difficult for primetime NFL games this season. Early numbers have the game averaging a 12.6 rating among metered market households.

The score, an improvement of nearly 16 percent from the week before, represents the league's best primetime showing (across any network) since the first week of the season. It's also a 9 percent lift from 2017. Thank Tom Brady and his Patriots for that. The team has proven itself capable, time and time again, of pulling in a big crowd.
