New Year on Netflix: Say Goodbye to Some Favorite Movies
by EGBeen planning to watch "Top Gun" on Netflix one of these days? Better get to it fast, because after the first of the year, Maverick, Ice Man and Goose—along with a whole bunch of other movie favorites—will disappear from the streaming service, at least for awhile.
Reddit users have been keeping track of movies whose streaming deals on Netflix are set to expire on January 1, and the list is lengthy. Some of the films due to go away might go unnoticed by most users of the service—"Species 2" and "Seed of Chucky," for example—but a fair number of acclaimed classics will become unstreamable, too.
"Titanic" and "Braveheart" are among the bigger titles expiring, and a long list of solid films from the 60s, 70s and 80s--including "War Games," "Platoon," "Serpico," "Romeo and Juliet" and "The Odd Couple"—will be gone as well. Cult favorites like "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" and "Session 9" are also on the list.
The deals Netflix makes to be able to stream movies vary from film to film, and some of these movies might disappear from the service for only a short amount of time before they reappear. Others might be gone for the long term, so if there's something on the list that you really want to see, it's best not to wait.
