Will New Season Resurrect 'The Walking Dead'?

Just about everyong agrees that the previous season of The Walking Dead was a major disappointment. Not only did the season draw derision from critics, it turned off millions of viewers, too. A series that once was the hottest thing on TV saw its ratings slide back to levels it hadn't seen in years. Can the show's producers turn around the series' rapid decline? Hannah Wales of Metro thinks not.

Via Metro.

Most TV shows run out of steam after seven seasons, and The Walking Dead is no exception.

The show still has plenty of exciting and potentially game-changing ideas, but drags them out, making them feel few and far between, effectively stringing viewers along for an entire season.

There are some stellar episodes, usually the season premieres and finales, but the rest is just filler.

in many episodes nothing really happens and, as a viewer, I’m sat there urging them to hurry up and get on with it rather than making us wait forever for a resolution.

The 2016 season opener with Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) killing off two main cast members was fantastic – bloody, brutal and ruthless – and seemed like it would give the show a new purpose and lease of life.

But it just fell back into its old habits – plodding pace, catching up with separated members of the crew, and building up to something oh so slowly.

I had hoped the Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and co. vs Negan showdown would happen at the end of the recent season, but no, we have had to wait for that huge moment until season eight, which begins in the UK on Monday 23 October.

It seems like this entire next season will be about the All Out War arc, which is promising.

The trailer makes it seem action-packed and focused on giving us the exciting showdown we deserve.

But I don’t want to get my hopes up too much because we will probably be made to wait for it for some time and they will stall the action or intersperse it with lots and lots of quiet, reflective moments.

Once the war is over and we have a resolution (a dead Negan would be ideal), I’m happy for them to call it a day.

As a fan, I’d rather they went out with a bang than outstayed their welcome.

However, that seems unlikely since there is plenty more source material from the comics to last them at least a few more seasons and the viewing figures are still good.
