New 'Rogue One' Trailer Finally Goes Public

It's hard to imagine how a marketing campaign could go better for a movie studio. Not only is anticipation high for the December release of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but anticipation is high even for the release of the latest trailer for the movie. In fact, anticipation for the trailer is so high that the trailer even has its own trailer.

The hype began last month when a new trailer for the film debuted at the Star Wars Celebration event in London. That trailer included the long-awaited first glimpse of Darth Vader as he will appear in Rogue One. Unfortunately, the trailer was only screened for attendees of the event and wasn't released to the general viewing public. Disney has been successful in keeping bootleg versions of the trailer from surfacing online, and eager fans have been frustrated in their attempts to get a look at it.

That changes tonight, Thursday, August 11, when the trailer is set to air during the NBC broadcast of the Rio Olympic Games. The marketing move helps not only Disney, but also NBC (which is somewhat surprising, given that Disney owns rival network ABC), as it will drive Star Wars fans to watch a whole evening of sports programming just to avoid missing the trailer.

In the meantime, Disney has released a 15-second teaser trailer intended to get fans even more excited ahead of the release of the full-length trailer.
