New 'Passengers' Trailer Reveals Chris Pratt/Jennifer Lawrence Romance
by EG
If any movie has a chance to stand up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story this December, it's Passengers, a sci-fi love story starring arguably the two biggest stars in movies today. This week, the first trailer for the movie hit the internet, and it puts a spotlight on the storyline's romance between the film's two leads.
The premise of Passengers involves an apparent malfunction aboard a long-haul starship which wakes two of its passengers from hiberation ninety years before the ship will reach its destination. The man and woman, played by Chris Pratt and Jennifer Lawrence, must make the most of their dire situation, and that means they've got nothing but time to get to know each other better.
Although the trailer focuses on the playful romance between the two characters, eventually the movie gets down to the standard stranded-in-space action fare. With their emotional connection as background, the pair must struggle and improvise to save themselves, a la Gravity, Interstellar and The Martian.
Passengers opens on December 21, 2016, less than a week after the latest installment in the Star Wars franchise hits theaters. It will also have competition that weekend from the video-game adaptation Assassin's Creed, but the sheer star power of Passengers should give it a solid footing from which to challenge the supremacy of Star Wars.
