New Netflix Movies & TV October 2014: Gaining 'Gilmore Girls' but Losing 'Battlestar Galactica'

We've talked before about how the complete series of "Gilmore Girls" is headed to Netflix in October, and how great that is.

But it comes at a cost!

Next month, Netflix will be shuffling around some mainstays of the streaming service, sending a few shows and movies off to...wherever it is they go when they're not on Netflix.

Included in the list of shows being taken off of Netflix in October is the complete series of "Battlestar Galactica," which has been on Netflix for years now and was the subject of a much-loved "Portlandia" sketch about binge-watching.

Most of the other titles leaving Netflix are movies, but some of them are ones you might really miss having around: "Mean Girls" is getting the boot (which is surprising, seeing as it seems like it's the one movie that Netflix recommends to literally everyone), and so are "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters 2." Right before Halloween, too!

Still, we're getting some good stuff added next month as well: "Galaxy Quest" is horribly underrated and will be available to stream, and the Oscar-nominated "Django Unchained" will be available as well for the Tarantino fans out there. "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" will also be available, just in time for a refresher before "Mockingjay" hits theaters.

It'll be a good month for comedy as well, as Tim Minchin and Chelsea Handler will have specials available to stream.
