New on Netflix for April: 'The Secret Life of Pets' and Some Major Losses
by EG
As usual, Netflix has a long list of new movies and TV shows coming to the service in the next month. But the bigger news is what's leaving. Several TV series that have been among the most popular on Netflix will be streamable no more after the turn of the month.
First, about those losses. Starting April 1, all the major TV series from writer/director/producer Joss Whedon will no longer be available on Netflix. That means no more Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly or Dollhouse. The loss is especially painful since Buffy just celebrated its twentieth anniversary, inspiring many fans to begin binge-watching the entire series again. Now they've got less than a week to wrap it up.
The losses largely overshadow the gains for the month. Among new movies on Netflix in April, the most prominent are 1993's Schindler's List, 1984's Gremlins, and 1984's A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Other notable newcomers are a handful of family-oriented movies from last year, including The Secret Life of Pets, Kubo and the Two Strings, and The BFG.
Fans of the cult comedy series Mystery Science Theater 3000 will be happy to note that a revival of the series debuts on Netflix on April 14, and a new stand-up comedy special from Louis CK debuts on April 4.
