New Movies September 4: Redford Walks and 'The Transporter' is Refueled

This holiday weekend, the summer movie season officially comes to a close, and it's set to close quietly. The two new wide releases this week are unlikely to make a big splash at the box office, and expectations for both of them are modest.

The first new entry this week is A Walk in the Woods, a comedy adventure starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte. It's based on a Bill Bryson's non-fiction book about his perhaps unwise attempt to hike the Appalachian Trail with an undependable old friend. The film is aiming at an older audience - Redford is, in fact, much older than Bryson was when he took his walk in the woods - and it's probably not going to hold a tremendous amount of appeal for the younger crowd.

More youthful moviegoers will have to settle for The Transporter: Refueled, the fourth movie in the Transporter franchise which has, to this point, starred Jason Statham. This time out, however, the film's protagonist is played by Ed Skrein. The film is playing in a lot of theaters over the weekend, but its audience is probably going to be mostly young men.

The question for the weekend will be whether Straight Outta Compton has enough steam left to win one more weekend. Last week's number two movie, War Room, could also triumph over both the new releases.
