New Movies September 25: Amazonian Terror and De Niro

Last week's new movies were very different from each other, but this week's new wide releases are just about as different as you can get. Whether any of them will truly resonate with the audiences they intend to target is the big unknown for the weekend.

The new release aimed at young people is Eli Roth's The Green Inferno. Roth first came to worldwide attention when he gave us Hostel back in 2005, and this new film about a group of young people being devoured by cannibals in the Amazon delivers all of the gore we've come to expect from Roth - and, according to critics, little else.

Older audiences might enjoy an evening with Robert De Niro instead. In The Intern, De Niro plays a 70-something retiree who takes on a internship at a youth-oriented fashion web site. This comedy is getting mixed reviews from critics, and it also stars Anne Hathaway.

The final big new wide release of the week is one for the youngsters. Hotel Transylvania 2 is back to get the Halloween movie season started, and the animated sequel features most of the big-name voices - including Adam Sandler and Kevin James - that you loved in the original film.

Holdover films Black Mass and The Maze Runner: Scorch Trials could also see continued popularity this weekend, and last week's sleeper hit, Everest, expands its release this week and will likely be a contender as well.
