New Movies September 11: Heaven, Perfection and a Visit
by EG
Now that summer's over, the fall movie season is beginning to kick into gear, albeit somewhat sluggishly. This week's new films include a thriller, another inspirational Christian film and a horror movie from a once-acclaimed director.
The Christian film, 90 Minutes in Heaven, stars Hayden Christensen as a man who is declared dead after a car crash but then comes back to life full of inspirational stories about the short time he spent in heaven. Based on a bestselling book, the movie features a plot that's very similar to last year's Heaven Is for Real, and it comes close on the heels of another Christian film, War Room. However, Christian films have shown a remarkability to do well at the box office, especially when there are no blockbusters on the schedule, and Heaven is for Real earned more than $100 million during its run.
The Perfect Guy is a thriller about a woman who falls for a guy who seems to be everything she's ever wanted, but as often happens in thrillers, he soon turns out to be something different than what she thought he was. The film stars Saana Lathan, Michael Ely and Morris Chestnut.
The Visit is the latest film from writer-director M. Night Shyamalan. It's about two kids who are sent to spend some time with their grandparents, only to discover that the eldery couple has some dark and twisted secrets. Shyamalan's star has fallen far since his debut, The Sixth Sense, was hailed as a masterpiece, and this latest offering has not exactly been causing critics to gush with praise.
