New Movies November 6: James Bond and Charlie Brown

There are only two big new movies this week, but they're two movies that might have a chance at finally breaking the string of flops that darkened the box office through October. A new James Bond film and an update on a cartoon classic will tempt moviegoers to try something new instead of going to see The Martian one more time.

Spectre is the fourth installment of the Bond franchise in which the British superspy is played by Daniel Craig. After the impressive success of Skyfall, the series' last installment, hopes are high for Spectre, and the film's remarkable popularity in worldwide markets last week. The film is getting mixed reviews from critics, though, and although its likely to be the box-office winner this weekend, it remains to be seen how much of a hit it will be.

The Peanuts Movie is also probably going to do very well this weekend. It's a new version of Charlie Brown and his gang, but it's not a cynical, adult-oriented reboot like the recent Muppets TV series, so it's entirely suitable for young audiences. That's going to be a big deal for families who have been waiting for a new film to take the kids to. The film is also getting generally positive reviews, so look for it to be a strong number 2 behind Spectre.
