New Movies November 4: 'Doctor Strange' is Set to Rule the Box Office

It's been a couple of months since any new Marvel or DC movie has hit theaters, and it's also been a couple of months since any new movie has grossed more than about $35 million in its opening weekend. Coincidence? We think not, and that's why we think this weekend will break the trend of weak fall weekends at the box office.

The biggest of this week's new wide releases is Doctor Strange, the new Marvel superhero flick starring Benedict Cumberbatch. The reviews for this one are mostly positive and anticipation is high, so expect it to open big. A weekend take of $75 million isn't out of the question.

The box office will be crowded with new competition, though. Trolls, an animated family film from Dreamworks, will be in more than 4,000 theaters. It's not likely to open as big as a Disney animated film, but it could still rake in somewhere between $25 and $30 million from families who are eager for some long-awaited appropriate entertainment.

Also new this week is Hacksaw Ridge, a Mel-Gibson-directed war drama starring Andrew Garfield. This one is not expected to make a huge impact at the box office, but it's still a good candidate for third place.
