New Movies November 27: Good Dinosaur Challenges Katniss
by EG
The latest Hunger Games movie didn't make quite as big a splash as expected last weekend, continuing the trend of disappointing weekends at the box office that began back in October. This week, a couple of big new movies will try once again to buck that trend.
The biggest new release and the most likely to succeed is The Good Dinosaur, an animated Pixar picture set in a fantasy world where dinosaurs did not go extinct millions of years ago. This one is getting glowing reviews, and it's the first truly family-oriented option in quite a while, so it's virtually guaranteed to be a blockbuster. It will likely take first place away from Mockingjay with ease.
The second big new release is Creed, the latest in the film franchise featuring the character of boxer Rocky Balboa. In this one, the son of Rocky's old opponent, Apollo Creed, comes to Rocky for training. This film is drawing very positive reviews, and the appeal of star Michael B. Jordan is strong. However, Sylvester Stallone's star hasn't been as bright in his recent trips to the box office, and it remains to be seen if Rocky holds much allure for younger audiences. Creed could take second place, or it might not.
The final big new movie this week is Victor Frankenstein, a retelling of the well-known horror story featuring James McAvoy and Daniel Racliffe. The big names should help this one, but its generally negative reviews and viewer fatigue over yet another Frankenstein movie won't.
