New Movies May 13: George Clooney and Kevin Bacon

Captain America: Civil War won't give up the top spot at the box office this weekend, despite the fact that it will face two new releases featuring two tried-and-true movie stars. Even if the Marvel superhero extravaganza faces a steep drop off this week, which it probably won't, it will still easily outpace the newcomers.

The first of the two new wide releases is Money Monster. It's a thriller starring George Clooney as a TV financial guru who is taken hostage in a television studio by a disgruntled viewer. It also stars Julia Roberts and was directed by Jodie Foster. The film has a good chance of capturing a more mature audience that isn't so interested in comic-book heroes, but its expected take of about $10 million for the weekend will put it in second place, at best.

The second new wide release is The Darkness, a horror movie about a family that brings home a menacing supernatural stowaway after a trip to the Grand Canyon. It stars Kevin Bacon and Radha Mitchell, and it should earn about $4 million for the weekend.

Civil War, meanwhile, is expected to stay strong after its huge opening last week, and it will probably take in more than $70 million in its second weekend.
