New Movies March 3: 'Logan' to Rule the Weekend
by EG
Just like last week, three new movies are going to hit theaters this weekend. And just like last week, one of those films is going to do much better than the other two. In fact, that one new movie is going to be the weekend's new number-one film.
The week's top movie is going to be Logan, the final film in which Hugh Jackman will play the role of Wolverine in the X-Men franchise. This one is rated R, which used to be a limiting factor for action movies. However, Deadpool proved last year that an R-rated superhero movie can be a hit. Expect Logan to earn somewhere north of $60 million and win the weekend with ease.
The second new wide release is The Shack, a Christian movie about a father who interacts with personifications of the Holy Trinity. Christian films haven't done good business at the box office lately, so don't expect this one to make $10 million. It could, however, sneak into the top five, given that there's not much fresh competition this week.
The week's final new wide release is Before I Fall, a teen-focused fantasy drama that lifts its premise from Groundhog Day. Expect it to make somewhere between $5 and $7 million.
