New Movies February 26: Eagles, Gods and Nines

Last weekend, a horror movie, a sports biopic and a religious drama attempted to knock Deadpool off the top of the pile, but none of them succeeded. This weekend, another sports biopic, another movie about deities and a heist movie try to do the same thing, and they're probably going to have just as much success. Unlike last weekend, however, this week's new releases are aiming for broad general audiences rather than the niches that were the targets of last week's new movies.

The first of the new wide releases this week is Eddie the Eagle, a comedy/drama about the unlikely British Olympic ski jumper Eddie Edwards. Hugh Jackman and Christopher Walken play supporting roles in this one; the film stars Taron Egerton as the Eagle.

The next new wide release is Gods of Egypt, an action film loosely based on Egyptian mythology. This one has a big production budget and stars Gerard Butler, but this kind of CGI-heavy dueling-gods movie has a history of performing poorly at the box office.

The third and final new wide release of the week is Triple 9, a caper movie about bad cops, good cops and gangsters. This one features a big-name cast that includes Kate Winslet, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Woody Harrelson, Aaron Paul, Norman Reedus and Gal Gadot.
