New Movies August 26: 'Don't Breathe' and 'Mechanic'

This weekend is officially the final weekend of the summer movie season, and the slate of new releases for the week makes it clear that Hollywood's summertime party is over. The week's three new movies include a low-budget horror flick, an obscure action movie sequel, and a modest sports biopic.

The first of the week's new releases, and the new movie expected to draw the biggest crowds over the weekend, is the horror film Don't Breathe. This one concerns three young thieves who break into the house of a blind man for an easy score. Much to their horror, they discover that their victim isn't nearly as helpless as they'd assume, and they end up fighting for their lives in the dark. The film stars Stephen Lang (Avatar), Jane Levy (Evil Dead) and Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps).

The second new release is Mechanic: Resurrection, a sequel to 2011's The Mechanic, which was itself a remake of 1972 film starring Charles Bronson. The new franchise stars Jason Statham, and the 2011 original grossed a total of $29 million domestically.

The final new wide release this week is Hands of Stone, a drama about legendary boxer Roberto Duran and his trainer, Ray Arcel. It stars Edgar Ramirez and Robert De Niro.
