New Movie Releases Aug. 16-18: 'Paranoia,' 'Jobs,' Another 'Kick-Ass' and a White House 'Butler'

The noisy blockbusters are all gone, but this week's new movie releases aren't without some big names, even if they aren't the most up-to-the-minute hot names. Harrison Ford will be on hand, as will Oprah Winfrey, Jim Carrey and Steve Jobs.

Ford will hit the screen in "Paranoia," a thriller starring Ford and Gary Oldman as battling billionaires and Liam Hemsworth as the young up-and-comer who gets stuck between them.

Winfrey's project is "Lee Daniels' The Butler" (we've got legal wrangling to thank for the awkward title), in which Forest Whitaker plays a butler who served in the White House during the civil rights and Vietnam eras.

Carrey rides into theaters in "Kick-Ass 2," the sequel to the 2010 action comedy about some misfit superheroes. Carrey drummed up a little publicity for the film by refusing to promote it (he decided, in retrospect, that the film was too violent for him to be involved with).

The late Steve Jobs doesn't actually appear in the fourth and final wide release of the week, but the flick, "Jobs," does tell his life story, with Ashton Kutcher portraying the tech genius.

After a summer filled with mega-budget action films, most of which underperformed at the box office, this weekend is amazingly low-key. None of the four wide releases has a budget bigger than $35 million, and only one of them is based on a comic book.
