New Marvel 'Defenders' Trailer is a Big Tease

A new teaser trailer for the upcoming Netflix series The Defenders offers no concrete new information of any kind, but it still manages to be an effective preview of the new Marvel team-up series. Fans of Marvel's Daredevil and Jessica Jones, as well as the yet-to-have-their-own-series Luke Cage and Iron Fist, will almost certainly have their anticipation riled up by the enigmatic new clip.

The trailer includes no live-action footage, neither from previously aired episodes of Darevil or Jessica Jones, nor from the Defenders series itself. Instead, it includes an animated sequence in which scraps of paper are torn from a messy collage to reveal the letters of the Defenders' logo. There is no narration, only Nirvana's "Come as You Are" playing over the sequence.

The trailer ends with Scott Glenn, as the character Stick, intoning in voice-over, "You think the four of you can save New York? You can't even save yourselves."

The trailer is all about setting up the Defenders line-up. Each letter in the cobbled-together Defenders logo comes from the individual logos of the team's heroes: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist. As the trailer ends, the Defenders logo is surrounded by an ominous grasping hand, implying that the team will face The Hand, the criminal organization introduced in the Daredevil series.

The Defenders is set to debut on Netflix at an unspecified time in 2017.
