'New Girl' Season 5, Episode 3: 'Jury Duty' Recap
by Shannon KeirnanJess has jury duty, though Nick begs her to stay and talk to CeCe about how messy she is in the loft.
At jury duty, Jess is insulted by a man in line for coffee, who thinks she is dressing crazily to get out of jury duty. She chews him out and he apologizes, and he, also a fan of the American right to jury duty, and offers to buy her drink, and gives her his number.
Nick calls her to complain more about CeCe, and Winston is determined to hang a terrible picture. Jess has to try to talk everyone down, insisting they all wait for her to get home before making any decisions or taking any action. Of course they don't listen to her. Winston hammers a hole in the wall, and Nick contronts CeCe about being a slob, who then yells at him for telling the same boring stories over and over again.
Jess gets another call - the principal at her school has injured himself and needs her to take over the position for a while. This means she has to find a way to get out of jury duty, although her number has been called. She starts trying to excuse her way out of it, saying she hates democracy, but the cute guy who bought her drink, Daniel, is the lawyer asking her questions. He catches onto her and is disappointed, and she ends up begging to stay on jury duty.
She finds out she will be locked into this for at least a month and will need to be sequestered and stuck in a hotel room.
Nick, Winston, Schmidt, and CeCe all go over the loft rules, and it breaks down in yelling and refusal. Finally, CeCe tells Nick she will sign it for him, since the tension between her and Nick is upsetting Schmidt. Schmidt thinks of Nick as his family, and to make it work for them, she has to be on good terms with Nick.
Jess comes home and packs for her month away, and leaves everyone with a bowl full of advice tidbits to tide them over in her absence.
