'New Girl' Season 4, Episode 8: 'Teachers' Recap

Coach is miffed that Jess is making him do a health class at her school. She points out it also means he gets to go to a teaching conference with her.

CeCe teases Jess because the hot teacher Ryan is also going to the conference. Jess maintains they are strictly colleagues, as she worked too hard to get to where she is to ruin it. She claims she can't, and won't, learn any personal details about him, to keep her lust in check. She doubts she'll even run into him.

His hotel room is directly next to her's.

Nick, Winston, and Schmidt celebrate Jess being gone by having a guy's weekend. They do all the things Jess won't let them do - including using her room window to stare at the girls across the way. Schmidt spills his sangria on Jess' bedspread. Nick tells Schmidt to wash it, pointing out that he has never seen Schmidt do his own laundry. He clearly has no idea how to do his own laundry. Winston admits he doesn't know simple things either, like how to read a ruler. Nick sets out to teach them.

Jess begs Coach to be a buffer between herself and Ryan. The woman running the conference wants everyone to partner up, and, after she humiliates Coach, he goes to the bar, leaving Ryan partnered with Jess. During the intimacy and trust exercises, Ryan proves to be everything Jess could want in a man.

Jess calls CeCe and makes her read a letter she left, reminding herself she can't get involved with Ryan. At the bar, Coach chats with other teachers, who tell him health class is extremely important and he can't just blow it off.

Jess goes back down to the conference, where Ryan has saved her a seat for dinner, but she blows him off. He wonder why she is back to avoiding him. He asks her what her problem with him is. As they argue about that, someone tells Jess they have a problem - Coach is on the roof of the pool house, drunk and freaking out about his role as an educator.

Nick teaches Winston how to read a ruler, and Schmidt how to do laundry. They're both thrilled. They wonder what he can't do - lots of things, including love. He wants to go to the bar, but they end up all in a blanket fort, talking about love and singing sad songs.

Jess goes on the roof of the pool house, trying to talk a drunk Coach out of doing a backflip into the pool. Ryan joins her, and they encourage Coach in his ability to teach. He falls off anyway, into the pool. Ryan dives off and saves him.

Ryan and Jess put Coach to bed and bond. She admits that he's about the most perfect person she's ever met and she has a crush on him.

The next morning Jess asks him to strike what she said from the record, and enjoy his Thanksgiving break. He says he won't be able to because he won't get to see her every day. He can't focus at work because he can't get her out of his head. She kisses him.

At home, Jess goes to her room to reflect on what has happened, to find her quilt has been shrunk.
