'New Girl' Season 3, Episode 21: 'Big News' Recap Nick wakes up on the floor to reminders written on his hand - 1) He and Jess broke up. 2) The bed was burned.

He finds Jess changing in the closet. They have an awkward conversation about what to do next. They decide to go tell their roommates, but find the guys celebrating, as Winston got into the police academy. Winston is prepared to make the day all about him.

Nick and Jess decide to wait another day. Both claim to be totally okay pretending to be a couple a little longer, but definitely are not. Nick goes to see his friend at the park, and Jess calls her mom, crying, but her mom is not supportive and more upset that she won't be getting grandchildren.

Nick decides to keep himself busy and immerse himself in Winston's day. He asks Winston what he wants, which is a "Honey Roast," where instead of roasting him they talk about how great he is. And a throne.

Schmidt is at the bar talking with CeCe, who is studying for her GED. He decides to tutor her, since she has been failing her practice tests.

Jess goes to CeCe's to unload about Nick but finds her studying with Schmidt. She pulls her aside and tells her she and Nick broke up, and Nick seems fine with it. CeCe encourages her to go talk to Nick, and offers to go with her.

As Nick struggles to create a throne, he blurts out to Coach that he and Jess broke up. Coach instructs him to hide his feelings, and take some of Schmidt's anti-anxiety pills.

Jess goes to talk with Nick, who has popped some pills. She tells him they need to be really honest, and wants to know how he truly feels. He says he feels amazing.

Schmidt runs in to retrieve CeCe to go back to studying, and she blurts out what is happening.

Jess comes back out, furious that Nick is so content, and begins drinking heavily as Winston's party gets underway. She dresses as Ferguson, per Winston's request, and when she gets drunk enough, steals the microphone from Nick. She roasts everyone, and then says the worst thing about Nick is that he is okay while she is not. He tells her he's falling apart and they're both relieved the other is unhappy.

Winston finds out they were covering things up for his day, and is touched.

Nick and Jess deal with the breakup - he drinks, and she watches "Dirty Dancing."
