'New Girl' Season 3, Episode 16: 'Sister' Recap

Everyone is going to Birdy's for dinner to meet Winston's new girlfriend. Schmidt bails, set on getting together with a girl he has his eye on.

Jess' mom calls her regarding her sister Abby, who was caught shoplifting and was arrested. She asks her to pick her up from jail and send her home. Jess tells everyone she is in town but fudges why. When Nick wants to meet her, she says they can get a quick bite during her "layover."

CeCe asks if Jess will really let Nick meet Abby and Jess says absolutely not.

With everyone bailing on the dinner except Coach and CeCe, he thinks it will be weird as a double date. Winston insists he come. CeCe acknowledges it will be weird, with the history between them.

Jess goes to get Abby, who instigates a fight in the holding cell before she goes out. Abby wants to meet Nick, but Jess wants to bring her directly to the airport and send her home. Abby gets on her phone and switches her flight.

Schmidt, needing help, brings Nick to a bar mitzvah. The girl he wants is the daughter of Schmidt's rabbi, who hates him. Nick needs to distract the rabbi while Schmidt swoops in on Rachel.

Jess reluctantly brings Abby home. She hits on Coach immediately and accuses Jess of being the baby of the family. Jess sneaks off and calls Nick, lying about how Abby's flight was changed and now she won't be able to come to dinner. Nick thinks Jess is embarrassed by him. While Nick is distracted, the rabbi notices Schmidt and goes to get his daughter away from him.

Jess tells Abby that Nick is stuck with work friends, and she and Abby make fun of their mother. Jess goes to get a picture, but Abby checks Jess' phone and gets upset. There is a text from CeCe asking if Abby has ruined everything yet. When Jess comes out, Abby is gone.

Jess' mom calls to check in, and offers to fix the situation. Jess realizes she is too dependent on her mother, and lies that everything is fine. She finds Abby at a hotel trying to charge drinks on other people's rooms. She tells Abby she's sorry, but that she does ruin everything. She tells her she's taking her to the airport.

It's tense at Birdy's. CeCe and Coach start arguing about the time they made out. They start yelling, which gets sexual. They end up making out outside, trying to recreate their amazing makeout session from before. The magic is gone. They decide to just let everything be water under the bridge and be friends.

Jess brings Abby to the gate. Abby admits she's a failure. She's the baby in the family.

Schmidt and Nick try to work out a new plan to get to Rachel. Nick goes and starts a big scene and accosts an old lady. Schmidt goes in to rescue her, but another guy beats him to it, and punches Nick. The rabbi immediately tells that man to date his daughter.

At home, Nick and Schmidt both confront Jess about being embarrassed by Nick, and she explains that they're misunderstanding. Abby, in a bath robe, comes out and introduces herself. Jess admits she lied and that her sister is a train wreck, but she needs her. Abby will be staying with them until she gets on her feet.
