'New Girl' Season 3, Episode 12: 'Basketball' Recap

Winston asks if he can go to work and shadow Schmidt to see if he'd be any good at marketing.

Jess comes home from her trip to the drug store with Coach, frustrated that she can't seem to get through to him, and he will only refer to her as his buddy's girlfriend... she wants to be known as his friend. She wants help cracking Coach. Nick tells her he loves watching basketball. Jess thinks that's going to be her in.

Winston goes to work with Schmidt. His boss tells Schmidt to show a new guy around... they're facing an ageism lawsuit, and now Schmidt has an older man to train to avoid that.

Jess tells Coach she wants to watch the Piston's game with him, and he's on board so he can watch it on the big T.V.

Winston takes notes on the bumbling Ed, while Schmidt chats with him and tells him about an idea he has, micro-marketing.

Jess can't connect with Coach... until it comes to an argument between Nick on the Bulls. She bonds with him over "hating" the Bulls, Nick's team.

She later gets into bed to tell Nick how well it went... in a Piston's shirt Coach gave her. He insists that she get out of the bed. It becomes an argument, and she refuses to yield. He tells her he's turning off his sex tap while she wears that shirt, and Jess storms off to sleep in her own room.

The next morning Nick still refuses to have sex with her until she declares herself a Bull's fan. She refuses. It's worth it later when Coach calls her his friend.

Ed takes Schmidt's idea at the work meeting. At the bar Winston tells Schmidt justice must be served.

Jess is still watching the games with Coach, but unable to get through to him. He makes her re-watch the game but she sucks it up.

Jess and Nick have a seduction-off in the hall, which Jess wins, and declares she is tturning off HER sex tap until he becomes a Piston's fan.

Winston and Schmidt plot how to undermine Ed's presentation, and get inspiration from Nick's refusal to use a camera phone in favor of a disposable.

Jess sabotages the television and forces Coach to sit and talk to her. He thinks they should do this over food... they go to a sports bar and he watches the T.V. there. Jess breaks down and admits she hates basketball. He calls her Nick's girlfriend again and she leaves.

Schmidt prepares to "help" Ed with his presentation... but he claims to not have been able to print out the papers Ed needed, so he uploaded it all onto a laptop. Ed doesn't know how to use it and fakes a heart attack to get out of the presentation.

Nick comes into the sports bar in a Piston's jersey, yelling for Jess. Coach explains what happened. Nick tells him to tell Jess all the random little thoughts in his head, and it'll make Jess his friend. Nick goes home to find Jess in a Bull's jersey, and they turn the tap back on.

Schmidt offers Winston a job at his firm, but after talking with CeCe and Schmidt, he thinks he may want to be a cop.

Coach knocks on Nick's door and tells Jess he'd love to be her friend, and starts talking about his life.
